David Noble: Israel Lobby Loses York

In the meantime, having been reinstated and having resumed his activism, Dan Freeman-Maloy has launched an $850,000 lawsuit against Lorna Marsden, which is now moving through the courts.  Likewise, David Noble filed a ten-million dollar grievance against the university for violation of his academic freedom and defamation.

Sabawi:  Invisible...

It would seem that we have made a grave error! The land of Palestine was indeed a land without a people. The Palestinian people were invisible when Israel was established in 1948 and apparently, they are still invisible today.

Media Monitors: Gazans finally win, but their tormentors get all the attention

... the reporting of Israel's pullout of the Gaza Strip and eviction of Jewish colonists has been grossly distorted for the benefit of Israel.
The most obvious failure is one of general focus. Instead of
depicting the pullout as a long-overdue victory for the long-suffering Gazans, our attention is drawn to the "settlers" and to Ariel Sharon, who comes across as some sort of statesman who made a great sacrifice for peace.

Yediot Aharonot: How we left Gaza
We will never know with certainty what took place in the mind of Ariel Sharon in February 2004, when he first declared, without consulting anyone, that he is ready to evacuate the Jewish settlements in Gaza. But if we try to put together the pieces of the disengagement puzzle, the scenario that makes most sense is that Sharon believed that this time, as before, he would find a way of evading the plan. This would explain, for example, why the Gaza settlers have not yet received compensation money and why, as the Saturday Supplement of Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot revealed on August 5, almost no steps have been taken to prepare for their absorption into Israel.

Deccan Herald:  Terrorism's original sin

Israel is angry with the Vatican. Pope Benedict XVI was held guilty by Ariel Sharon's government of failing to condemn a Palestinian bombing in the Israeli town of Netanya. The papal ambassador in Israel was summoned to the Israeli foreign office and sternly told that the Pope had spoken against the murderous hand that had struck in Egypt, Turkey, Iraq and Great Britain, but that he had failed to include Israel in that list. The omission appeared deliberate to the Sharon government and amounted to "granting legitimacy to terrorist attacks against Jews". The thrust was unmistakable: the newly installed Pope was being threatened with being branded as anti-semitic.

Netscape.ca: U.S. Lutherans Condemn Israeli Barrier

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America denounced the security barrier Israel is building along the West Bank, saying Saturday that Israeli policy throughout the territories has brought ``extreme hardship'' to Palestinians.
The statement, called "Peace Not Walls: Stand for Justice
in the Holy Land," is part of an advocacy plan for Mideast peace that delegates to a churchwide assembly adopted on a 668-269 vote.

The Guardian:  The lone warrior

Tali Fahima has been called "whore of the Arabs", "traitor" and "the terrorist's girlfriend". She is also seen as a political prisoner, persecuted for daring to condemn the occupation of Palestine. This 29-year-old Israeli, whose case has been filling the Israeli press, has been in prison for exactly one year, remanded until her trial concludes - though it is not clear when that might be.

Outlook: Canada Park: Canadian Complicity in a War Crime ByDr. Ismail Zayid

"Here is our house", says Ibrahim Elsheikh, the 75-year-old mukhtar (village headman) of Imwas (Emmaus), pointing to the rubble of his home which stood there until June 1967, when Israel invaded and occupied Sinai,  the West Bank, Gaza and the Golan Heights. Thousands of villagers, from Imwas, Yalu and Beit Nuba-my own hometown-still cry remembering their homes that stood there until Israel erased them from the face of The Holy Land, when they were systematically dynamited and bulldozed. In Beit Nuba alone, 18 old or disabled men, who were unable or unwilling to leave their homes instantly, were buried under the rubble. .

ISM: Report from International Solidarity Movement member Sarita Ahooja of Montreal, currently in Palestine

Yesterday ISM travelled to the village of Tana, near Beit
Furik checkpoint, where Israeli forces demolished the entire village on July 5th.

The residents had received one day's notice that their homes were to be demolished by a piece of paper left outside one of their dwellings. The villagers knew no one to call and the razing of their twenty-two homes went ahead unhindered.

Montreal Planet Magazine: Open letter to Paul Martin asking why Canada's foreign policy on Israel is being made behind closed doors.
So my questions are to you, Mister Prime Minister.  Why
are you, on your own, making Foreign Affairs decisions concerning the Middle East which run contrary to public opinion in Canada and without the input of our elected officials and related departments and committees?  At whose behest?  In return for what?As pointed out by journalist Marci McDonald in her recent Toronto Life Magazine article entitled "The Heather & Gerry Show", might this be evidence of a quid pro quo for the political fund raising of your bagman Gerry Schwartz?
