January 17, 2011 Boycott Victory Update - Ahava is rebranding It seems that B’nai Brith jumped to conclusions. The Bay did not pull Ahava So
although this is not a BDS victory in Canada, it may well be a
worldwide BDS victory; the Ahava image is tainted. The campaign
against it has been so successful thatthe distributor has to re-brand
the product just like Israel is seeking to re-brand
itself. [ Read more]
We have just been advised that the United Jewish Appeal Facebook page has announced that: The Bay has discontinued sales of all Ahava products from Israel. Although company spokespeople have not officially explained their decision, it follows an intense boycott campaign by anti-Israel activists. In response, we suggest that you visit your local Bay store request AHAVA products and inquire why they are not available. Please consider writing a quick note of thanks to the Bay to counteract the avalanche of angry emails from Israel backers. THIS IS THE FIRST BDS VICTORY IN CANADA. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT WE SUPPORT THE BAY.
Electronic Intifada - Audio: Highlights from Montreal BDS conference More than 600 activists from Quebec, Canada, and the United States gathered in
Montreal from 22-24 October for a weekend-long conference on growing the
boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement. The opening public panel at
the conference offered reflections on the five years since the unified
Palestinian call for BDS was first made, including views from Palestine and
South Africa. Much of the weekend drew participants together in sector-oriented
working groups and on Sunday the final session offered a report back to a crowd
of hundreds. [Of
course, the Canada Israel Committee (CIC) is desperate to downplay this
conference and say that only 100 people attended the closing
plenary on the Sunday afternoon. Their reporter must have
arrived late, very very late. Nonetheless, the article is worth reading as it clearly indicates how much work there is still to be done to cut Canadian ties with Israel.]

March 13, 2010 ACT NOW: AHAVA DEAD SEA PRODUCTS SOLD AT REXALL, PHARMA PLUS Pharma Plus which also operates under the name Rexall, IDA Drugs, Guardian Drugs and the Medicine Shop is now selling Ahava Dead Sea products. You may not find Ahava products in all stores; our information indicates that only the larger stores are carrying them for the time being. You can do so by clicking on Contact Us at this link http://www.pharmaplus.ca/ January 2010 Carleton Students Discover University's Links to Military Occupation: Launch Divestment Campaign OTTAWA - Carleton students have released a report detailing how the Carleton University Pension Fund invests in companies involved in violations of human rights and of international law. The report was created by Students Against Israeli Apartheid (SAIA – Carleton), who are launching a campaign to end Carleton's unethical investments and to adopt a socially responsible investment policy. The academic freedom and professional rights of higher education teaching personnel in Israel, the West Bank and Gaza are increasingly under assault as a result of the continuing political conflict in the region, according to a report released today by Education International and the Canadian Association of University Teachers..... Limits imposed on freedom of movement within the Palestinian territories make it difficult and in many cases impossible for Palestinian academics and students to attend conferences or study abroad, and have forced local universities to shut down early and to close entirely for extended periods. There are bans on the import of certain research equipment and materials needed to pursue scholarly activities, and many academics face arbitrary arrest and detention by both Israeli and Palestinian authorities.
April 10, 2009 I feel I must join the many Jews and non-Jews, Israelis and Palestinians, queers and otherwise, who are part of the growing global BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) movement against Israeli apartheid. I’ve come to the conclusion that, in this moment, to not take this stand is unthinkable, impossible. Why this moment? I could answer: Another Palestinian home bulldozed in East Jerusalem. Palestinian children recovering slowly from phosphorous burns. Civilian killed on Friday in Gaza by Israeli soldiers. Child born at checkpoint, because ambulance was held for three hours. These were some of today's headlines, but they’re also eerily reminiscent of so many headlines, over so many decades. February 24, 2009 Toronto Star - CUPE union votes for academic boycott of Israel University workers in the Canadian Union of Public Employees have passed a controversial motion calling for an academic boycott of Israel, and union members from at least one Toronto university are planning to pressure their school to cut any financial ties with the country. Liberal and Conservative reactions to CUPE Motion
February 14, 2009 CJN - Film fest drops prize sponsored by Jewish group MONTREAL — After one of its jurors resigned in protest last year, a long-established Quebec film festival dropped a prize created and sponsored by the Jewish community intended to promote tolerance because festival organizers feel it’s inappropriate to be associated with any “political pressure” group.... Guy, a Montreal film director and producer, wrote in a widely circulated open letter that, after looking more closely into the background of the prize’s sponsors, he did not want his name associated with it. He said the money was “tainted” and urged Rendez-vous not to accept it. He called CJC “a vehicle for the Israeli propaganda machine,” denounced JNF, which the Dworkins supported, for “the massive displacement of the Palestinian people and the occupation of their land” and protested the Israeli “siege” of Gaza.
August 19, 2007 By Jason Kunin Often, countries deemed acceptable for criticism by supporters of Israel are already subject to political and diplomatic sanctions by the U.S. and its tool, the UN Security Council – sometimes for acting in ways identical to Israel. So, for example, Syria, like Israel, engages in targeted assassinations (in Lebanon), and Iran, like Israel, possesses an openly discriminatory state structure that has institutionalized the supremacy of a single religious group. Yet while Syria came under sanctions in 2003 (when the U.S. passed the "Syria Accountability and Lebanese Sovereignty Restoration Act”) and Iran has been subject to U.S. trade and investment sanctions since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Israel has faced no political repercussions for the same actions. Where there is already action at the political level, there is no need for the building of a grassroots movement to instigate political change, so as atrocious as the human rights records of countries like Iran and Syria may be, targeting them for a campaign of boycott would be redundant.

January 23, 2007 OSSTF Press Release - Teachers' Union Defends Right to Freedom of Speech (Note: The motion did not pass but it is wonderful to see yet another union standing up against the Zionist lobby's attempt to suppress free speech and interfere in the affairs of other organizations.) December 29, 2006 Coalition Against Israeli Apartheid - Launch of Boycott campaign against Chapters/Indigo On Saturday 23 December a picket was organized by activists in Toronto and Montreal to officially launch a boycott campaign against Chapters and Indigo Bookstores. TorStar - Toronto's United Church to boycott Israeli goods CBC - CUPE in Ontario votes to boycott Israel The Ontario divison of Canada's largest union has voted to support an international campaign that is boycotting Israel over its treatment of Palestinians. (Read full text of CUPE Resolution.) CUPE BC is governed on the question of Israel/Palestine by two resolutions passed at its own annual conventions. (CPNO comment: This is long but well worth reading and saving as it thoroughly debunks the myths espoused by the pro-Israel lobby.) On 31 May 2006, B'nai Brith issued a statement denouncing the decision by CUPE-Ontario to support the global campaign of boycotts, divestment and sanctions against Israeli apartheid. The Coalition Against Israeli Apartheid (CAIA) has prepared this response to the myths and allegations raised by B'nai Brith. We welcome your comments at endapartheid@riseup.net.
