The Conservative Party reaction is no great surprise.....

Toronto Star - CUPE `intolerant' of Israel, Tories charge

Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney says a CUPE Ontario resolution urging a boycott of Israeli universities is intolerant and contributes to a bad atmosphere on Canadian campuses.

He acknowledges there's nothing illegal about the resolution, but claims it's part of a growing wave "singling out and targeting the Jewish democratic state of Israel for opprobrium."

And the Liberals have completely adopted the Israel Lobby spin......

Liberal Party Media Release - CUPE Ontario resolution on Israeli universities crosses the line

Liberals condemned a resolution, passed last weekend by the Ontario wing of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, which calls for a boycott of Israeli universities.

Liberal Justice Critic Dominic LeBlanc said that boycotts or divestment appeals that target Israel for singular condemnation and exclusion are unacceptable.

[ In its pandering to the Zionist lobby, the Liberal party has completely lost its soul. Not only have they betrayed, human rights and international law but it is becoming increasingly clear that they have abandoned Canadians to organizations that would destroy our civil liberties and our democracy in order to conceal the crimes of a foreign state.

In the past month, we have seen the Israel-right-or-wrong lobby slander Canadians from all backgrounds for their participation in protests against the bombing of the imprisoned population of Gaza. We have seen students on our university campuses being harassed for using the term"apartheid" in relation to Israel, a term that Desmond Tutu, Nelson Mandela and Jimmy Carter have used in the same manner. It is well known that the lobby targets journalists who expose the facts about Israel. Neither the Liberals nor the Conservatives had anything to say about this. We are losing our right to the very foundation of democracy - our right to freedom of expression and the both the government and the opposition are complicit.]
