[Irwin Cotler is the Liberal Human Rights critic but he seems to have his own independent foreign policy initiatives when it comes to the Middle East - the main one right now is beating the drums of war with Iran.]

Activists, lawyers, MPs prepare application to UN Security Council for severe sanctions against Iran

Montreal – Back in Canada after a recent visit to the Middle East, Liberal MP Irwin Cotler described Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as an active participant in crimes against humanity who has been given free reign to continue massive human rights violations by the international community-at-large.

Response of Judy Haiven, a non-Zionist Jewish Canadian to an article by Irwin Cotler recently published in the Jerusalem Post.

Mr. Cotler is a Liberal MP and a former president of the Canadian Jewish Congress. He has built a reputation as a Human Rights lawyer but his concern for human rights does not extend to Palestinians, in fact, he is an outspoken advocate for Israel's right-wing policies. In the article "Double Nakba" Cotler promotes the latest Zionist twist of history which claims that as many Jews were expelled from Arab countries in 1948 as Palestinians from Palestine. He neglects to mention that this exodus was prompted by fear that Arabs would seek vengeance on Jews for the expulsion of Palestinians from Palestine. Zionist operatives also engaged in false flag operations against Jews in Arab countries to frighten them into moving to Israel.

Letter to Paul Martin raising some important questions about Irwin Cotler's connections to the Government of Israel

According to the August 24, Canadian Jewish News article "Cotler slams UN over ceasefire resolution" , your party's Public Safety Critic MP Irwin Cotler just returned from Israel where he met with "Israeli government officials, including Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Deputy Prime Minister Shimon Peres and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni ".  http://www.cjnews.com/viewarticle.asp?id=9973

Based on this news, I would like to ask you the following:

1)  Why did you send your Public Safety Critic to meet with the aforementioned Israeli officials?

2)  Do you believe it is appropriate that your Public Safety Critic MP Irwin Cotler also be an Associate of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs , which describes itself as "an independent, non-profit institute for policy research and education serving Israel " and produces position papers such as   "After the Hamas Victory: The Increasing Importance of Israel's Strategic Barrier in the Jordan Valley" which support the theft by Israel of the Jordan Valley in the West Bank in contravention of International Law, UN Resolutions and Canadian Policy? http://www.jcpa.org/jcbrd.htm http://www.jcpa.org/brief/brief005-17.htm
