an educational event on political issues of concern to us all....
The Canadian government says that to criticize Israel is an attack on the
Jewish people. This is absurd. Criticism of Israel is not prejudice. When we
criticize the U.S. government, it's not an attack on the American people.
When we criticize the Harper government, it's not because we hate
conservatives -- let alone all Canadians.
January 23, 2009 As American rabbis and rabbinical students from various parts of the Jewish world, we express our sorrow and outrage over Israel's latest military operation in Gaza. Judaism teaches that all human beings are created in the image of God and that one who takes a single life destroys an entire world. We condemn the firing of missiles from Gaza that forced so many Israelis to live in fear and we mourn the loss of life that resulted from these attacks. However, we are devastated by Israel's disproportionate use of force, killing more than 1,300 people, including over 450 children. In the wake of such overwhelming civilian carnage, we can only ask, in the words of the Talmud, "How do we know that our blood is redder than the blood of our fellow?"

Delegates at the United Methodist Church's General Conference in Fort
Worth TX (April 23-May 2) did not get to directly consider a range of
selective divestment proposals this week. Nonetheless, in a stunning
rebuke to anti-divestment groups, Methodist delegates voted by 763-38
to keep divestment from Israel's occupation on the table as an option.
Delegates also resoundingly rejected a petition to support Israeli
settlements.

A call by concerned South African Jews As South Africans with a common heritage, both as Jews and as people privileged to be a part of the ending of an evil system of discrimination here, we have learned that the path to peace can never lie in killing and destruction.
