| KINDLY SHUT UP, MR. BAKER! A QUEBECER REPLIES TO ALAN BAKER, ISRAELI AMBASSADOUR TO CANADA So Alan Baker, Israel's Ambassador to Canada, dares to criticize Gilles Duceppe for attending the August 6 Montreal Rally for Peace in Lebanon. Let us ignore for now the insolence of this intrusion into Quebec's affairs by the spokesman for a state-above-the-law, a state that has ignored 70 UN resolutions condemning its barbaric occupation of the Palestinian people. Let us instead consider how Israel tries to snuff out all criticism of its policies with a barrage of propaganda. Howls of protest have become the norm for this state-above-the-law and its defenders. Take for example the recent outburst by Irwin Cotler, our former federal minister of "justice" and "human rights advocate". The goal of these pathetic outcries is invariably to stifle dissent, deny the facts, mask Israel's fascist-like policies under the guise of the "eternal victim" and dress up the executioner in the rags of the victimized. This Israeli ambassador talks of "irreparable damage". Mr. Baker, you should know that any irreparable damage to Israel and its reputation has been caused by your army and your government as well as by your public opinions and your country’s criminal acts. Israel has caused this damage to itself in displaying unmasked barbarism by destroying Lebanon a second time. It has ruined its credibility through incessant propaganda, denials of guilt, displaying contempt for "the other victim" and by carrying out endless acts of assassinating, plundering, humiliating and torturing the Palestinian people. In brief, Quebecers have nothing to learn from you, Mr. Baker, or from any other apologist for your militaristic and ruthless state. We do not want lessons from you about the bizarre Israeli "rule of law" that only applies to members of its "master race". Nor do not we need instruction from someone whose country despises world opinion while exploiting the patience and generosity of the international community. No, Mr. Baker, all we ask of you is a little dignity and a little silence, if you please. For in the end, Sir, have you no shame?
